For buyers and sellers along the Emerald Coast, working with a REALTOR® who understands the local market is important. Working with one who also helps lead the systems behind that market brings an added level of insight.

Melinda Vazquez, REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker Realty in Niceville, is currently serving as President of the Emerald Coast MLS. In this leadership role, Melinda helps support the integrity, accuracy, and long-term strength of the MLS system that local real estate professionals rely on every day.

The Emerald Coast MLS plays a critical role in how homes are listed, marketed, searched, and analyzed across the region. For Melinda, serving as President is not only about leadership within the real estate industry. It is also about helping protect the trusted data and cooperative marketplace that buyers, sellers, REALTORS®, brokers, and local communities depend on.

Let’s dive into a Q&A with Melinda on her new role:

Q: What does serving as President of the Emerald Coast MLS involve?

As President of the Emerald Coast MLS (ECMLS), my role is to provide leadership and strategic direction for the organization while working alongside the Board of Directors, staff, brokers, and industry partners. The President helps ensure that the MLS remains financially sound, technologically advanced, and focused on delivering value to its participants and subscribers. The position is ultimately about protecting and enhancing the integrity, accuracy, and usefulness of the MLS for the benefit of our members and the consumers they serve.

Q: How did you become President of Emerald Coast MLS?

My involvement with the MLS has grown through years of active participation in the real estate industry, service on committees, leadership roles within organized real estate, and a commitment to improving the tools and resources available to REALTORS®. Those experiences provided opportunities to learn the challenges facing our industry and to build relationships with brokers, agents, staff, and fellow leaders. Through that service and the confidence of my peers, I was elected to serve as President of ECMLS.

Q: Why did you pursue this leadership role?

I pursued this role because I believe the MLS remains one of the most valuable assets REALTORS® have. The real estate industry is evolving rapidly, and MLS organizations face increasing pressure from technology changes, data challenges, consumer expectations, and industry consolidation. I wanted the opportunity to help guide ECMLS through that environment while ensuring we remain focused on serving our members and protecting the cooperative marketplace that benefits buyers and sellers.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish as President?

My goals as President include:

  • Strengthening the long-term financial health and sustainability of ECMLS.
  • Enhancing member value through technology, data quality, and customer service.
  • Improving communication and transparency between the MLS, brokers, and subscribers.
  • Supporting innovation while maintaining the integrity of MLS data.
  • Ensuring ECMLS remains a trusted, independent resource that serves the needs of our local real estate community.
  • Positioning the organization for future growth and industry changes.

Q: How does this role impact your work as a REALTOR®?

Serving as President gives me a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing real estate professionals. It allows me to better understand industry trends, MLS operations, policy development, and emerging technologies. The role requires a significant investment of time and leadership, but it also makes me a more informed REALTOR® and a stronger advocate for my clients and fellow members.

Q: How does your ECMLS leadership benefit your clients?

My involvement with ECMLS directly benefits my clients because it keeps me closely connected to the systems, policies, and technology that drive the real estate marketplace. I have a deeper understanding of data accuracy, market trends, industry changes, and best practices that impact real estate transactions every day.

Most importantly, it allows me to advocate for a stronger MLS system that promotes cooperation, transparency, and reliable information—helping buyers and sellers make better-informed decisions and achieve successful outcomes in the marketplace.

As President, I view my responsibility not only as serving the members of ECMLS, but also helping ensure that the MLS continues to provide the trusted foundation upon which successful real estate transactions are built.
